Another month is upon us and we're rolling into our Spring season and that means Tornado season. So we've once again posted our VFW Disaster Preparedness Brochure online to assist our communities in being prepared for our crazy Oklahoma weather.
From the looks of it we may also want to share this link with our surrounding neighbors. What once used to be an Oklahoma, Texas phenomenon has spread throughout our nation to our Northeastern friends so if you know anyone who could use some great Disaster Preparedness information, and who couldn't, please share this link with them.
As many of you know as of last month we have moved our meetings to the 2nd Thursday of the month to try and accommodate those who are also members of the American Legion and for those who are attending school on Tuesday evenings. Our schedules stay pretty busy both personally and through our Post endeavors but we will try to keep up with our events by keep all upcoming events posted to our website and by sending them along a s part of our monthly newsletter.
This Thursday, 8 Mar 2012, we have a short notice event beginning 2:00 PM (1400 Hours) at the VA Hospital to visit with the our Comrades there. We are usually there from about 2:00 - 4:00 PM but encourage everyone to come and support our Comrades whether you have one hour or several hours available.
Thursday evening is also our next Post meeting which will be held at the Lynn Lee Mae Chapel located at 507 East Main Street, Moore, OK. This meeting is a very important one as we will begin the process for nominating our Officers for the following year 2012 - 2013. Membership is very important to our Post's survival so please bring any guests that you think may make good candidates for our Post and lets get to know them and let them experience what the VFW and our Post has to offer them.
Here's a short schedule of upcoming events and important dates -
01 March 2012 – Thursday - Asiatic Fleet Memorial02 March 2012 – Friday - Vietnam War Began (1965)
And last but certainly not least our Post Commander Vern Babcock wanted to leave us with this short quote;
“March 6, 1941 - To the Members of the Army:
As Commander-in-Chief I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States. Throughout the centuries men of many faiths and diverse origins have found in the Sacred Book words of wisdom, counsel, and inspiration. It is a fountain of strength and now, as always, an aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul.
Very sincerely yours
Franklin D. Roosevelt “
My how the times they are a changing and not necessarily for the better...!!!
